Why we do this work: A message from Megan

The most amazing sounds fill my office each afternoon. I open the windows when I arrive and throughout the day hear traffic breezing by, maybe the occasional siren. But mid-afternoon there are joyful giggles and exclamations of playfulness. While you might expect that anywhere there is playground equipment, this playground equipment is unique because it is in the courtyard of a shelter.

Experiencing homelessness can be incredibly traumatic for people of all ages, but especially so for children. The opportunity to experience stability and safety is a precious experience Access Housing offers children. Children can relax and feel comfortable, and most importantly they can be kids. Each afternoon, no matter what has transpired in the hours before, I listen to the laughter, the silly banter and I remember:

this is why we do this work.
